“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

Isaiah 41:10

Over the last week, we’ve observed Justice, our foster-son, becoming increasingly aware and terrified of shadows. It has gotten so bad that he won’t willingly put his feet on the ground. The shadows cast on the floor have sent him into an unusual panic. Compassion welled up within my heart for him a few days ago. His struggle was serious. How I longed for him to run through the house and play freely again or express his new found giggle. If only he would’ve shifted his attention off of the ground and looked up, he would’ve seen those who love him, and the blessings all around him.

This morning, I had him stand behind me, held his hands, and walked in front singing, “Follow the Leader”. When I did this, his initial panic turned into peacefulness…

There are many days that I am tempted to look at my circumstances and panic or feel afraid to take steps forward in life but the truth is–I’m not alone. I have a Father in Heaven that loves me, has endless compassion for me, and wants to lead me forward. Daily, I make efforts and choices to keep my eyes fixed upon Him so I may follow in His footsteps. There is no one like Him. He never changes and He loves to reveal His good gifts to me. It’s when I get distracted by the darkness all around me, that I lose my way and become blind to God’s gifts–just like Justice.

I’m so glad the Bible reminds us that– “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” James 1:17
